What is Fascia?

  • The fascia, also known as fasciae, is  a dense, stretchy, weblike connective tissue that covers and surrounds the body, head to toe.
  • Also known as myo(muscles)fascia. the fascia surrounds and connects every muscle, bone, nerve and organ in the body system
  • While fascia is extremely dense and strong it is also very flexible and adaptable due to the collagen content
  • This explains how, under the stress of injury, overuse and repetition, the fascia will thicken, shorten and tighten to adapt to the strain we place on certain areas of our body in order to keep us upright and functional but in doing so can  create further restrictions in movement, potentially severely altering posture.
  • When restriction or pain occurs in one area (for example a shoulder), a flow on effect can occur in another region of the body, often the hip.

Trauma to the myofascial system is said to be remembered and embedded in a manner that is unique to this intelligent and deeply somatic, sensitive system. This is why myofascial unwinding and myofascial massage can have such a profound healing effect.

Is your pain due to myofascial dysfunction?

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Jaw Pain
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Pain hip/neck/back
  • Face
  • Hands
  • Feet

Often my clients have a series of painful areas such as: right shoulder/left hip or knee OR left lower back and right hamstring

Myofascial planes of movement mean that pain can often radiate across seemingly unrelated areas
